It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Import permission is required.

Note

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

Health certification

There are no agreed conditions or health certificate for this commodity.

As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.

Certifying officers must review the import permit(s) and conditions provided by the exporter and ensure that the issued document(s) are consistent with the permit(s).

Prospective exporters of day-old chicks to Uganda should review disease testing and freedom clauses carefully. Exporters should seek a dispensation or a revised import permit from the official authority of the importing country if the requirements as written in the import permit issued for a consignment cannot be met. Certifying officers may require the exporter to obtain written acceptance of draft Australian Government health certificate to enable export certification.

Health certificate

I, Dr ………………………………, a duly authorised government veterinary officer, hereby certify that:

a) The parent stock have been tested and proved to be negative against Pullorum Disease and other salmonellosis.

This condition as written and issued by the importing country in June 2026, may not be able to be certified. Where necessary, prospective exporters should seek dispensation or a revised import permit from the importing country official authority.

b) The chicks are from parent which have been re-vaccinated with a killed Gumboro Vaccine before point of lay.

The Department issues certification based on records of vaccination and a declaration from the registered veterinarian(s) responsible for monitoring the parent flocks attesting to the accuracy of the records.

c) The parents are free from Mycoplasmosis and Avian Leucosis 

This condition as written and issued by the importing country in June 2026, may not be able to be certified. Where necessary, prospective exporters should seek dispensation or a revised import permit from the importing country official authority.

d) The chicks are vaccinated against Marek’s Disease at day one.

The Department issues certification based on records of vaccination and a declaration from the registered veterinarian(s) responsible for monitoring the hatchery attesting to the accuracy of the records.

e) The parents have been free from highly pathogenic Avian Influenza, and low Pathogenic Avian Influenza and other infectious diseases such as: 

• Fowl plague (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza)
• Newcastle disease
• Avian infectious bronchitis
• Avian infectious laryngotracheitis
• Fowl cholera

This condition as written and issued by the importing country in June 2026, may not be able to be certified. Where necessary, prospective exporters should seek dispensation or a revised import permit from the importing country official authority.

The importing country may require the consignment be accompanied by a packing list describing the contents of the consignment.

The importing country may have specific transport requirements and you should check this.
