Health requirements
Health certificate
I …………………………………………. a duly authorised Government Veterinary Officer do hereby certify that:
- The pigeons originate from a loft free from signs of infectious and contagious diseases.
- Australia is free from highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5 and H7); and
- The lofts of origin are not within a 50km radius from a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak.
- The pigeons have been isolated from contact with other birds of different health status and in houses protected against the entry of any wild birds for at least 30 days prior to shipment.
- The Australian state or territory that the pigeons originate from is free from Newcastle disease as defined by the OIE.
- The pigeons for export to Zimbabwe
- Were kept in a loft or quarantine facility under veterinary surveillance for at least 30 days prior to shipment; where the all-in, all-out principle was observed prior to shipment.
- Showed no clinical signs of avian influenza and Newcastle disease or any other disease to which the species is susceptible for at least 14 days prior to shipment.
- During the 14 days prior to shipment, were tested for avian influenza and Newcastle disease as follows, with negative results. Laboratory results are attached.
- Avian influenza, by serology (using an approved test) or by virus isolation or PCR (using an approved test on cloacal or pharyngeal swabs). Pooling of samples permitted with not more than 5 samples in each pool.
Newcastle disease virus, by virus isolation or PCR testing (using an approved test on cloacal or pharyngeal swabs). Pooling of samples permitted with not more than 5 samples in each pool.
Sample Size Table
≤ 10 | 10 | | ≤ 80 | 42 |
≤ 20 | 19 | | ≤ 90 | 43 |
≤ 30 | 26 | | ≤ 100 | 45 |
≤ 40 | 31 | | ≤ 200 | 51 |
≤ 50 | 35 | | ≤ 300 | 54 |
≤ 60 | 38 | | ≤ 400 | 55 |
≤ 70 | 40 | | ≤ 500 | 56 |
Where the number of birds to be sampled indicated in the table is greater than the total number of birds being exported, all birds are to be sampled.
- Were vaccinated for Newcastle disease within 3 months prior to shipment, as indicated below (attached larger table if required).
- Were treated during the quarantine period for chlamydiosis using an appropriate tetracycline.
- Were examined within 48 hours prior to shipment and found to be clinically healthy and free of evidence of internal and external parasites and fit to travel.
- To the best of my knowledge the birds do not constitute any risk of into introducing diseases into Zimbabwe.
- The pigeons have been treated with (an) appropriate and effective endo- and ecto-parasite treatment(s) within 7 days prior to shipment to Zimbabwe.
