Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Note that the requirements to import live animals into the State of Hawaii and the island territory of Guam are subject to locally imposed quarantine requirements. You should consult the separate MICoR entries for Hawaii and Guam.

Information about the process required to import cats into the United States of America can be found on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)  and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  websites.

The import of exotic cat breeds such as Bengals may be restricted and require a Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) permit. You should consult the US Fish and Wildlife Service website carefully for further information.

Note: Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
