It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

The requirements for importing live animals into the Malaysian state of Sabah may be different to those for Malaysia more generally, with locally imposed arrangements in place. You should consult the separate Micor entry for Malaysia if the export is not to Sabah.

Note

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
The importation into the Malaysian state of Sabah of certain breeds of dog may be restricted or prohibited. You should check the importing country authority about any current prohibitions and requirements.

There are no agreed conditions or health certificate for the importation of dogs or cats into Sabah from Australia.

Certifying officers must review the import permit(s), any conditions provided by the exporter, the website of the importing authority, and ensure that the issued document(s) are consistent with the permit(s).

The following conditions were sourced from a permit issued in June 2021:

3. A Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the Veterinary Authority of Australia attesting that:
   
   
   1. 3.1. The animal(s) is healthy, non-pregnant and free from clinical signs of infectious and contagious diseases and show no clinical signs of Rabies within 48 hours prior to shipment.
   2. 3.2. The animal(s) has been vaccinated against common diseases of the exporting region/state.
   3. 3.3. The animal(s) has been vaccinated against Rabies:
      1. 3.3.1. Not less than six (6) months and not more than one (1) year prior to shipment; in case of primary vaccination, which should have been carried out when the animals were at least three (3) months old or
      2. 3.3.2. Not more than one year prior to shipment; in the case of a booster vaccination with an inactivated virus vaccine or with a recombinant vaccine expressing the Rabies glycoprotein.


4. Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre (RNAT) Test:
   
   
   1. 4.1. The animal(s) is subjected to a Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralisation (FAVN) test in OIE (Office International des Epizooties) approved laboratory and the serum contains at least 0.5 IU/ml.
   2. 4.2. Performed on the sample that has been collected not less than 30 days and not more than 24 months prior to shipment.
   3. 4.3. The laboratory report must be in English and completed on the testing laboratory’s letterhead which include
      1. 4.3.1. The animal(s)’s microchip number
      2. 4.3.2. The blood sampling date and location
      3. 4.3.3. The signature of the person issuing the laboratory report
      4. 4.3.4. The test type and test result
         


5. The animal(s) has been treated against endo and ectoparasites within 15 days before shipment.


6. If the mean of conveyance is by air, the animals must pass through air (MAS) cargo.

15. The confirmed time of arrival should be made known to the Animal Quarantine Office at least two (2) days in advance.


16. Any imported animal(s) that shows sign of disease or died within six (6) months post quarantine, should be informed to the Veterinary Authority immediately by the owner.
    

Transport requirements

The importing country may have specific transport requirements and you should check this.

Pre and post arrival quarantine requirements

The animal(s) will be subjected to a minimum fourteen (14) days mandatory quarantine at the Veterinary Quarantine Station if all conditions have been complied with upon arrival.

Failing to comply with any of the stipulated conditions may result in an extension of quarantine or the animal being denied entry.

If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the Department’s requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
