Importing country requirements
It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.
You should obtain an import permit from the
Republic of Maldives Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture and check the conditions carefully.
- Note
- Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

I,______________, an official veterinarian for the government of Australia certify to the best of my knowledge that:
- 1) Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and H5 and H7 low pathogenicity avian influenza (LPAI) are notifiable diseases in Australia. The Australian state or territory of origin is free of highly pathogenic avian influenza, in accordance with the criteria established in the corresponding chapter of the OIE Terrestrial Code. There have been no reports of HPAI or LPAI on the premises of origin for at least the past 12 months prior to export.
- 2) Virulent Newcastle disease is a notifiable disease in Australia. There have been no reports of Virulent Newcastle disease on the premises of origin for at least the past 12 months prior to export.
- 3) There have been no reported cases of psittacine pox virus infection in Australia.
- 4) There have been no cases of Pacheco's disease (psittacine herpesvirus-1), psittacine polyomavirus infection, proventricular dilatation disease ("Macaw wasting disease", parrot bornavirus) or Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (circovirus infection) on the premises of origin for at least the past 12 months prior to export.
- 5) The bird(s) were examined by a registered veterinarian within 72 hours prior to export and found to be free from clinical signs of Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (circovirus infection), Pacheco's disease (psittacine herpesvirus-1), psittacine polyomavirus infection, proventricular dilatation disease ("Macaw wasting disease", parrot bornavirus), and psittacine pox virus infection.
- 6) The bird(s) were examined by a registered veterinarian within 72 hours prior to export and found to be free from clinical signs of infectious or contagious diseases and external parasites and fit to travel.
- 7) The scheduled transport route of the bird(s) does not include a plan to transit through a HPAI or LPAI affected country for more than 24 hours.
- 8) The bird(s) will be confined in IATA approved cages for transportation.

The bird(s) must be confined in International Air Transport Association (IATA)-approved cages for transportation.
Return to Australia
If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with Australia's requirements for
importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
