Importing country requirements
It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.
The consignment of live day-old chicks and hatching eggs shall be accompanied by a valid import permit issued by
Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) concerned permitting the importation of such chickens and eggs into Malaysia.

- Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
Health requirements
Health Certificate
- The Australian State or Territory from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs for export to Malaysia are derived is free from highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the state or territory veterinary authorities of no reports of the notifiable disease in the state or territory as defined by the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
- The Australian State or Territory from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs for export to Malaysia are derived is free from Newcastle disease as defined by the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the state or territory veterinary authorities identifying that the State or Territory is free from Newcastle disease as defined by the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.
- The day-old chickens to be exported to Malaysia have been inspected and are free of evidence of disease.
The Department issues certification based on an inspection by the Australian-government accredited veterinarian prior to export.
- The donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs for export to Malaysia are derived have shown no evidence of Salmonella Pullorum, Salmonella Gallinarum, Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Enteritidis, fowl cholera (Pasteurella multocida), infectious bronchitis, infectious laryngotracheitis, infectious bursal disease, Marek’s disease, egg drop syndrome (EDS 76), swollen head syndrome, avian encephalomyelitis or mycoplasmosis (M. gallisepticum and
M. synoviae) for the 6 months prior to export.
The Department issues certification for country freedom based on advice obtained from the Australian Chief Veterinary Officer to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the state and territory veterinary authority of no evidence of the relevant notifiable diseases occurring on the premises where the donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs were derived from for six months prior to export.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the operator of the premises where the donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs were derived from of no evidence of the relevant non-notifiable diseases occurring on the premises for six months prior to export.
- The donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs are produced are part of a salmonella accreditation scheme for Salmonella Pullorum, Salmonella Gallinarum, Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis.
OR
- a) The donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs are produced have been tested for Salmonella Pullorum and Salmonella Gallinarum by serum agglutination tests at least twice in the 6 months prior to export, including once within 30 days of export. A number sufficient to detect 5% prevalence with 95% confidence was tested. No evidence of Salmonella Pullorum or Salmonella Gallinarum was detected.
AND
- b) The housing of the donor flocks from which the day-old chicks or hatching eggs are produced has been microbiologically tested for Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis. Five samples per house were tested at least twice in the 6 months prior to export, including once within 30 days of export. No evidence of Salmonella Typhimurium or Salmonella Enteritidis was detected.
The Department issues certification based on declarations from the state or territory veterinary authority confirming the donor flocks from which the day-old chickens or hatching eggs were produced from are accredited Salmonella-free flocks for
Salmonella Pullorum, Salmonella Gallinarum, Salmonella Typhimurium and
Salmonella Enteritidis.
OR
- a) Records of blood sampling and laboratory test results within the appropriate time period and at the correct confidence levels.
AND
- b) Records of sampling and laboratory test results within the appropriate time period and correct sampling regime.
- The day-old chickens have been hatched from eggs that had been fumigated before setting.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the operator of the premises.
- The day-old chickens have been hatched from hatchers that were disinfected or fumigated before use and where no eggs from other farms were present.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the operator of the premises.
- The day-old chicks have been vaccinated against Marek’s disease using a registered vaccine.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the person who administered the vaccine that the day-old chicks have been vaccinated against Marek’s disease using a registered vaccine.
- The day-old chicks or hatching eggs were placed into new, clean packaging for export to Malaysia. The day-old chicks or hatching eggs destined for export have not come into contact with other poultry or birds.
The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the exporter and a transport plan provided by the exporter.

Transport requirements
Each consignment day-old chicks and hatching eggs imported into Malaysia shall be carried by ship or aircraft or any vehicle direct to the prescribed landing place in Malaysia.
Pre and post arrival quarantine requirements
The importing country may have specific pre and post arrival quarantine requirements and you should check this.
Inspection of farm(s) or premises of origin
The farm(s) or premises of origin may be subjected to inspection by the officials from the DVS, Malaysia as and when deemed required.
Suspension of Import
The Director General of Veterinary Services Malaysia or State Veterinary Director may at any time when deemed necessary suspend importations from that country either temporarily or permanently in the event of disease outbreaks or suspected disease outbreaks occur or in case of importation in contravention of the above regulations.
Right to Amend Import Regulations
The Director General of Veterinary Services Malaysia or State Veterinary Director shall amend the above regulations at any time as he may deem necessary.
