Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

Health requirements

Import Permit (Veterinary Permission) required from the Libyan Veterinary Authorities, General People's Committee for Agriculture, Animal and Marine Wealth, Libya.

VETERINARY HEALTH CERTIFICATE FOR THE EXPORT OF HORSES FROM AUSTRALIA TO LIBYA

I, .................................................. an AQIS Veterinary Officer, after due enquiry with respect to the horses identified in this certificate, certify that:

  1. Australia is free from:

    • African horse sickness
    • dourine
    • surra
    • glanders
    • equine encephalomyelitis (VEE, EEE, WEE)
    • vesicular stomatitis
    • rabies
    • equine piroplasmosis

  2. The horses were born and raised in Australia or has been resident in Australia for a minimum of three months

  3. The horses have not been vaccinated against African horse sickness

  4. The horses have been tested for equine infectious anaemia using the Coggins (agar gel immunodiffusion) test with negative results

  5. The horses have been vaccinated for equine influenza between 8 and 2 weeks prior to export

  6. The horses have been resident on premises for the three months prior to export, during which time no resident horse showed clinical signs of infectious disease African horse sickness, dourine, epizootic lymphangitis, equine encephalomyelitis - (Eastern and Western), equine encephalomyelitis (Venezuelan), equine herpes-virus 1 - (abortigenic and neurological strains), equine infectious anaemia, equine influenza, equine piroplasmosis, equine viral arteritis, glanders, surra or vesicular stomatitis.

  7. During the week prior to export, the horses were treated for internal and external parasites using products registered for such treatment.

  8. The horses were inspected and found visibly free of external parasites within 24 hours prior to export.

  9. The horses will be exported in a container cleansed and disinfected in advance with a disinfectant registered for use in Australia.

Return to Australia

If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the Department's requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
