Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Contact the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) for information about the process required to import animals into Japan from Australia.

The requirements to import rabbits to Japan from Australia for research purposes may be subject to different conditions. Refer to the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) for further information.

The exporter should confirm the import conditions and appropriate health certificate to use with the relevant authority in Japan in advance of their application.

As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the importing country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
