Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

The European Union (EU) has not yet implemented harmonised requirements for the non-commercial movement of pet animals other than dogs, cats and ferrets. Information about the process required to import rats into Italy from Australia can be found at European Union – Rats pet.

Contact the Italian Directorate-General for Animal Health and Veterinary Medicines for additional requirements that may apply, including the requirements for live rats that are imported for research purposes.

Health requirements

As required by the importing country.
