Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

The European Union (EU) has not yet implemented harmonised requirements for the non-commercial movement of pet animals other than dogs, cats and ferrets.

National rules apply for the non-commercial movement of pet animals of the species listed in Part B of Annex I to the Regulation (EU) No 576/2013) from Australia into member countries of the EU.

Health requirements

As required by the importing country.

It is the responsibility of the exporter to use the appropriate importing country documentation, and ensure that this and any accompanying declarations are in English and the appropriate language of the EU member country of the border inspection post (BIP) where the animals will enter the EU.

If a health certificate is required, Australian Departmental officers will only endorse health certification for animals destined to the EU member country if it is written in English and, where required, an official language of the EU member country of the BIP where the animals will enter the EU.

Australian Departmental officers will not endorse health certification for animals destined to the EU if only presented in a language other than English.

Permission to move animals out of Australia

You may need permission under wildlife trade laws to move certain animals out of Australia. Refer to the Department's International wildlife trade requirements.
