It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements. Additional information to assist exporters with how to prepare reproductive material for export is available on the Department’s website.

An import permit is required. If the import permit is in a language other than English, a certified English translation by a NAATI 2/3 level translator or equivalent must also be provided.

1. THE COUNTRY/ DEL PAIS
   
   
   1. Australia is officially free of the following diseases: Foot-and-mouth disease (types SAT 1,2,3 and Asia 1), Rift Valley fever, rinderpest, caprine and ovine pox, peste-des-petits ruminants, scrapie, Nairobi disease, pulmonary adenomatosis, maedi-visna, vesicular stomatitis, contagious agalactia, enzootic abortion in ewes, Brucella melitensis, and Brucella abortus.
      Australia es un país Oficialmente libre de de las siguientes enfermedades: Fiebre Aftosa (tipos SAT 1,2,3 y Asia 1), Fiebre del Valle de Rift, peste bovina, Viruela Caprina y Ovina, Peste de Pequeños Rumiantes, prurigo lumbar o tembladera, Enfermedad de Nairobi, Adenomatosis Pulmonar Ovina, Maedi Visna, Estomatitis Vesicular, Agalaxia Contagiosa, Aborto Enzoótico de las Ovejas, Brucella melitensis, y Brucella abortus.


2. THE COLLECTION AND PROCESSING CENTRE / DEL CENTRO DE RECOLECCION Y PROCESAMIENTO
   
   
   1. The semen collecting and processing centre where semen originates from must be authorised and supervised by the official veterinary service of Australia.
      EL centro de recolección y procesamiento de donde proviene el semen, debe estar autorizado y supervisado por el servicio oficial de sanidad animal de Australia.
   
   
   2. The semen collecting and processing centre must keep a record of its activities. Records must be kept for at least two (2) years following semen export and be readily available for inspection by the pertinent sanitary authorities.
      El centro de recolección y procesamiento debe llevar un registro de sus actividades. Los registros de actividades deben conservarse por lo menos por dos años consecutivos a partir de la exportación de semen y deben estar disponibles para presentarlo a la autoridad sanitaria competente en caso de inspección.
   
   
   3. All breeding donor sheep/goats at the semen collection centre must be submitted to laboratory tests. They must be carried out at official laboratories, or laboratories accredited by the National Association of Testing Laboratories (NATA) for detecting the following diseases (see below), that uses diagnostic tests approved by the OIE.
      Todos los ovinos/caprinos reproductores donantes, en los centros de recolección de semen, deben ser sometidos a pruebas de laboratorio. Dichas pruebas deben llevarse a cabo en laboratorios oficiales o laboratorios acreditados por la Asociación Nacional de Laboratorios de Ensayos (NATA) según métodos recomendados por la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OIE), para detectar las siguientes enfermedades (véase más adelante).
   
   
   4. All donor animals must comply with pre-quarantine and quarantine sanitary controls, as specified in OIE sanitary regulations for terrestrial animals.
      Los animales donantes deben cumplir con los controles sanitarios de la pre-cuarentena y cuarentena, según lo dispuesto en el código sanitario de los animales terrestres de la OIE.
   
   
   5. Sheep/goat semen must originate from a collecting and processing centre approved and supervised by the official veterinary service of Australia. Semen must be collected, processed and stored in accordance with the provisions of the OIE Code for terrestrial animals. All donor animals must remain at the collection centre for at least thirty (30) days prior to semen collection.
      El semen ovino/caprino debe provenir de un centro de inseminación aprobado y supervisado por el servicio oficial de veterinaria de Australia. El semen debe ser tomado, manipulado y almacenado conforme a lo dispuesto por el código sanitario para los animales terrestres. Todos los animales donantes permanecerán al menos treinta (30) días en el centro de inseminación antes de la toma del semen.
   
   
   6. Original laboratory test results must be attached to the zoosanitary certificate.
      Los resultados originales de las pruebas de laboratorio efectuadas deben ser anexados al certificado zoosanitario.


3. DONORS AND SEMINAL MATERIAL/ DONANTE Y MATERIAL SEMINAL
   
   Requirements regarding foot-and-mouth disease/ Requisitos relacionados con la fiebre aftosa:
   
   
   1. 1. Donor sheep/goats must not show any clinical symptoms of foot-and-mouth disease on the day semen is collected nor on the following 30 days; and
      Los ovinos/caprinos no presentaron ningún signo clínico de fiebre aftosa el día de la toma ni durante los treinta (30) días siguientes; y
   
   
   2. Animals must have stayed for a period of at least three (3) months prior to semen collection in countries or areas that are free of foot-and-mouth disease and where no vaccination against this disease is carried out.
      Permanecieron en el país o zona libres de fiebre aftosa en los que no se aplica la vacunación, por lo menos, los tres (3) meses anteriores a la toma del semen.
   
   
   Requirements regarding peste-des-petits ruminants (PPR)/ Requisitos relacionados con la peste de los pequeños ruminates:
   
   
   1. 2. Donor sheep/goats must not have any clinical symptoms of PPR on the day of semen collection or on the following twenty one (21) days; and
      Los ovinos/caprinos donantes, no presentaron ningún signo clínico de peste de los pequeños rumiantes el día de la toma del semen ni durante los veintiún (21) días siguientes; y
   
   
   2. Donor animals must have stayed in countries or areas free of PRR for a period of at least 21 days prior to semen collection.
      Permanecieron en un país o zona libre de peste de los pequeños rumiantes, durante por lo menos, los veintiún (21) días anteriores a la toma del semen.
   
   
   Requirements regarding bluetongue/ Requisitos relacionados con la lengua azul:
   
   
   1. 3. Donor sheep/goats have tested negative as determined by a competitive ELISA assay or an agar- gel immunodiffusion assay. Testing must be carried out between twenty one (21) and sixty (60) days following embryo collection; or
      Los donantes ovinos/caprinos, deben resultar negativos a la prueba serológica competitiva de ELISA o a la prueba de inmunodifusión en gel de agar. Las pruebas deben llevarse a cabo entre veintiuno (21) y sesenta (60) días después de la última toma de semen para la exportación; o
   
   
   2. 4. Animals are shown to be negative to infection by virus isolation assays carried out on blood samples taken every seven (7) days; or to PCR tests carried out every twenty eight (28) days during the period of semen collection.
      Los animales mostraron resultados negativos a la pruebas de aislamiento del virus realizadas a partir de muestras de sangre tomadas cada siete (7) días o a las pruebas de PCR, cada veintiocho (28) días a lo largo del período de toma del semen.
   
   
   Requirements regarding ovine and caprine pox/ Requisitos relacionados con la viruela ovina y caprina:
   
   
   1. 5. Donor sheep/goats must not show any clinical symptoms of ovine and caprine pox on the day of semen harvest nor on the following twenty one (21) days; and
      Los ovinos/caprinos, no presentaron ningún signo clínico de viruela ovina o viruela caprina el día de la toma del semen ni durante los veintiún (21) días siguientes; y
   2. Donor sheep/goats must have stayed in countries or areas free of ovine and caprine pox.
      Permanecieron en un país o zona libre de viruela ovina y viruela caprina.
   
   
   Requirements regarding ovine epididymitis (sheep only)/ Requisitos relacionados con la epididimitis ovina (solamente ovinos):
   
   
   1. 6. Donor sheep must NOT present any clinical symptoms of ovine epididymitis disease on the day of semen collection;
      Los ovinos donantes, no deben presentar ningún síntoma clínico de epididimitis ovina el día de la toma del semen;
   
   
   2. Donor sheep must come from flocks that are free from ovine epididymitis;
      Los ovinos donantes, deben proceder de un rebaño de ovinos libre de epididimitis ovina;
   
   
   3. Donor sheep have been in confinement for sixty (60) days prior to semen collection in a facility or semen collection centre where all animals are free of ovine epididymitis;
      Los ovinos donantes han permanecido en confinamiento durante los sesenta (60) días anteriores a la toma del semen, en una explotación o en un centro de recolección de semen donde todos los animales están libres de epididimitis ovina;
   
   
   4. Donor sheep tested negative in complement fixation tests (as prescribed for international trade). Tests should be performed thirty (30) days prior to semen collection.
      Los ovinos donantes, resultaron negativos a la prueba de fijación del complemento (prueba prescrita para el comercio internacional) efectuadas durante los treinta (30) días anteriores a la recolección del semen.
   
   
   Requirements regarding caprine and ovine brucellosis (not caused by Brucella ovis)/ Requisitos relacionados con brucelosis caprina y ovina (no debida a Brucella ovis):
   
   
   1. 7. Donor animals must not present any clinical signs of caprine and ovine brucellosis on the day of semen collection;
      Los ovinos/caprinos, no presentaron ningún signo clínico de brucelosis caprina y ovina el día de la toma del semen;
   
   
   2. Animals must come from semen collection centres shown to be free of caprine and ovine brucellosis, that are tested every six (6) months by buffered brucella antigen test (BBAT) and by complement fixation test, or
      Proceden de un centro de recolección de semen libre de brucelosis ovina y caprina, en el que se realizan pruebas cada seis (6) meses de antígeno tamponado y fijación del complemento; o
   
   
   3. Have tested negative in two (2) simultaneous serological tests: Buffered brucella antigen test (BBAT) or complement fixation test (tests prescribed for international trade) which must be carried out on the same blood sample collected thirty (30) days prior to semen collection. Resultaron negativos dos (2) pruebas serológicas simultaneas: prueba del antígeno de Brucella tamponado o fijación del complemento (como pruebas prescritas para el Comercio internacional), efectuadas durante los treinta (30) días anteriores a la toma del semen a partir de la misma muestra sanguínea.
   
   
   Requirements regarding enzootic abortion of ewes (sheep semen exclusively)/ Requisitos relacionados con el aborto enzootico de las ovejas (solamente semen ovino):
   
   
   1. 8. Donor sheep stayed in a country or insemination centre that has been free of the disease for the last two (2) years.
      Los ovinos reproductores donantes, permanecieron en un país o en un centro de inseminación artificial libre de la enfermedad durante los dos (2) últimos años.
   
   
   Requirements regarding scrapie/ Requisitos relacionados con prurigo lumbar o tembladera:
   
   
   1. 9. Donor sheep/goat must be provided with permanent identity tags in order to identify their facility of origin; and
      Los ovinos/caprinos donantes, deben ser identificados con etiquetas de manera permanente paraidentificar el establecimiento de origen;y
   
   
   2. Donor animals have been reared from birth in a scrapie-free zone or country; and
      Los animales han permanecido en un país o zona libre de prurigo lumbar o tembladera desde su nacimiento; y
   
   
   3. Animals have not presented any clinical signs of scrapie at the time of semen collection.
      Los animales no han manifestaron ningún signo clínico de la enfermedad en el momento de la toma del semen.
   
   

   Requirements regarding Akabane disease/ Requisitos relacionados con enfermedad de Akabane:
   

   1. 10. Donor sheep/goats have been subjected to and shown to be free of the Akabane virus by an RT-PCR test applied between 7 and 9 days prior to admission to the collection and processing centre.
      Los ovinos/caprinos donantes, fueron sometidos a una aprueba de RT-PCR, con resultados negativos, entre 7 y 9 días antes de su ingreso al centro de recolección y procesamiento para detectar el virus de Akabane.


4. SHIPPING / DEL EMBARQUE
   1. During all manipulation procedures prior to cryopreservation of semen in straws for export, personnel must not carry out any procedures with semen of inferior sanitary conditions.
      Durante todas las manipulaciones previas a la conservación en frio de las pajillas de semen destinadas a la exportación, el personal no deberá llevar a cabo ninguna operación con semen de condición sanitaria inferior.
   
   
   2. Diluted and treated semen must be kept frozen in liquid nitrogen and separated from other stocks for a period of 30 days after harvesting. Cryopreservation straws or ampoules must be properly labelled, allowing ready identification of the collection date, race, donor, and the semen collection centre from where the sample originated.
      El semen diluido y tratado debe ser mantenido congelado en nitrógeno líquido y separado de otras partidas de semen durante un período de 30 días después de la recolección. Las pajillas o ampollas deben ser propiamente etiquetadas, permitiendo la rápida identificación del día de recolección, la raza, la identificación del donante y el centro de inseminación del que procede.
   
   
   3. Semen has been treated with antibiotics according to OIE regulations.
      El semen ha sido tratado con antibióticos de acuerdo con las regulaciones de la OIE.
   
   
   4. Vacuum flask(s) must be new and disinfected with a solution registered for that purpose in Australia. Flasks should be signed and sealed by the animal health authority prior to transportation to the embarkation point.
      El termo o termos para el trasporte del semen deben ser nuevos y desinfectados con una solución registrada para tales efectos en Australia, precintado y sellado por la autoridad de sanidad animal, antes de autorizar su trasporte al lugar de embarque.

For trade on these products to take place, each sourcing establishment must be accredited on an individual basis. For this purpose, interested establishments must submit a completed "Accreditation of sheep and goat artificial insemination centres” form. Contact the Department for more information.
