Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Refer to the  Government of the Virgin Islands website for information about the process required to import animals into the British Virgin Islands from Australia. Read more about the Importation of dogs and cats from scheduled (rabies non-endemic) countries, such as Australia.

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
The British Virgin Islands may issue permits requiring vaccination and/or testing for Lyme disease, which is not possible for dogs in Australia. Exporters may be able to apply for a dispensation from the British Virgin islands authority (vet@gov.vg) in place of testing and/or vaccination for Lyme disease which instead requires the Australian Government to include the statement: ‘No evidence of Lyme disease (infection with Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato) has been reported in dogs and cats in Australia’.

Health requirements

As required by the importing country.

Other requirements

Transport requirements

The importing country may have specific transport requirements and you should check this.

Return to Australia

If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the Department’s requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.

Basis for Micor entry
