You should take care to confirm the importing requirements at the time of export of the animal.
- Note
- Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.
Health certificate
Brazil recognises that Australia is declared a rabies free country and rabies vaccination is not required. However, in March 2023, the Brazilian Government advised that unvaccinated animals will receive a rabies vaccination upon arrival. They recommended that all animals are vaccinated against rabies prior to export to reduce any delays in disembarkation in Brazil.
An International Veterinary Certificate (DOCX | 62KB) issued by an Australian licensed veterinarian is required.
If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the
Department's requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
