1. Preconditions for market access

1.1 Establishment registration

Establishments are required to be export registered to export eggs from Australia to Kiribati.

1.2 Overseas listing

Establishments are not required to be establishment listed to export eggs from Australia to Kiribati.

1.3 General information

An import permit is required for eggs exported from Australia to Kiribati.

The validity of the permit is subject to change as determined by Kiribati.

2. Operational requirements

2.1 Operational requirements additional to Australia's export legislation

Table eggs should be sourced from farms with adequate biosecurity system having proper disease surveillance and monitoring program.

Candling of eggs should be done to ensure quality and safety of eggs and to prevent inclusion of any fertile egg.

Eggs should be properly cleaned and graded. Eggs of standard size greater than or equal to 55 grams are allowed.

The eggs should be sourced from farms that have been declared free from the following diseases:

  • Newcastle disease
  • Highly Pathogenic Influenza (Avian Influenza)
  • Infectious Bursal Disease (IBS)

2.2 Microbial and residue sampling

Kiribati has no known additional requirements for microbial and residue sampling of eggs and egg products that differ from those required in the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

3. Documentation requirements

3.1 Cage, barn and free-range table eggs

Health certificate for eggs and egg products

For eggs and egg products produced for human consumption, use Health Certificate template EX46EG with additional endorsement.

The eggs and egg products have not been sourced from areas/states under quarantine restriction for Newcastle disease or notifiable avian influenza.

3.2 Egg products that are not heat treated

There is no agreed certification for export of non-heat-treated eggs and egg products into Kiribati.

3.3 Egg products that are heat treated

There is no agreed certification for export of heat-treated eggs and egg products into Kiribati.

3.4 Manufacturing grade products

There is no agreed certification for export of manufacturing grade eggs and egg products into Kiribati.

3.5 Consignments under 10 kg and trade samples

Kiribati has no known requirements for consignments under 10 kg and trade samples that differ from those required in the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021. Please confirm requirements with your importer before sending a consignment under or equal to 10 Kg.

4. Import procedures

4.1 Import permit

An import permit is required for table eggs exported from Australia to Kiribati.

The validity of the permit is subject to change as determined by Kiribati.

4.2 Port of entry inspection and testing

Upon arrival, the consignment will be inspected by a biosecurity officer to have met all the import conditions laid out in the import permit. Failure to comply will result in destruction or re-export of the consignments at the importers expense.

5. Packaging, labelling and shipping marks (port marks)

5.1 Packaging

Only new egg trays shall be used.

5.2 Labelling

Egg cartons must be labelled with name of the farm, location, contact number, production date and sealed with farm logo.

Kiribati has no known specific requirements for shelf life.

5.4 Use-by date

The expiry date for table eggs must not be more than 40 days from the date of production under proper storage conditions.

Kiribati has no known specific requirements for shipping marks.

6. Shipping and air freight requirements

6.1 Refrigeration, transfer and loadout

Eggs and egg products must be transported to ensure their condition and integrity is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Export Cont​rol (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021.
