1.1 Establishment registration

Establishments are required to be export registered to export eggs from Australia to Taiwan.

Exceptions to establishment list and overseas registration

Preparation of goods at an export registered establishment and an export permit is not required if you are exporting the following, as these goods are not prescribed under the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021;

1. (a) eggs from a species other than Gallu​​s gallus;
2. (b) egg products derived from eggs from a species other than Gallus gallus;
3. (c) eggs or egg products that are animal food or pharmaceutical material;
4. (d) liquid egg products exported in a consignment of not more than 10 litres;
5. (e) eggs or egg products not covered by paragraphs (a) to (d) exported in a consignment of not more than 10 kilograms;
6. (f) egg products in the form of a tablet or capsule;
   
7. (g) eggs or egg products for export to New Zealand.

Note

However, if Taiwan​ requires a government certificate for the entry of the above goods, a certificate can be issued by the department – provided that the goods have been prepared in an export registered establishment.

1.2 Overseas listing

Establishments are not required to be establishment listed to export eggs from Australia to Taiwan.

1.3 General information

An import permit is required for eggs exported from Australian to Taiwan.

The validity of the permit is subject to change as determined by Taiwan.

2.1 Operational requirements additional to Australia’s export legislation

Taiwan has no known additional requirements that differ from those required in the Export Control (Egg and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

2.2 Microbial and residue sampling and maximum acceptable limits

Taiwan has no known additional requirements for microbial sampling of egg and egg products that differ from those required in the Export Control (Egg and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

Taiwan residue standards

Maximum residue limits (MRLs) or import tolerances for residues of specific agricultural and veterinary chemicals approved for use in Australia may not exist in Taiwan or may be established at levels lower than those established in Australia. Maximum Limits (MLs) for contaminants may also vary between Taiwan and Australia.

Food business operators should note that:

• These differences can be interrogated case-by-case by considering the Taiwan standards and the Australian standards.
• Any detection of a residue above the Taiwan ​MRLs/MLs (as applicable) at the border may result in rejection of the consignment.

Note

Following the conclusion of the Special Egg Project on 30 June 2024, egg and egg products for human consumption may not be accepted by Taiwan at import inspection and consignments sent to Taiwan are at com​mercial risk. Exporters should exercise caution and work with their importer to ensure product meets the current importing country requirements.​​​
For egg and egg products sourced outside of states and territories where there is Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), the below export health certificates remain available for exporters who believe their products meet Taiwan’s importing country requirements and will be accepted for import into Taiwan (for example where exporters have obtained a valid import permit for their p​roduct).
The department continues to engage Taiwan regarding market access for egg and egg products.​​

3.1 Cage, barn and free-range table eggs

​For table eggs ​produced for human consumption, use Health Certificate template EX46TW.

For table eggs use additional endorsement 5170.

Additional endorsement 5170

1. The state(s) of origin is/are free from notifiable avian influenza and Newcastle disease.
2. No outbreak of subtypes of H5 or H7 low pathogenic notifiable avian influenza (LPAI) has occurred for at least 28 days in the Australian state(s) of origin prior to export.
3. The shell eggs have had their surfaces sanitized and are transported in new or appropriately sanitized packaging materials.
4. The shell eggs are derived from infertile eggs.​
   

3.2 Egg products that are not heat treated

For egg products that are not heat treated produced for human consumption, use Health Certificate template EX46TW (NEXDOC only).

For egg products use additional endorsement 5171.​

Additional endorsement 5171

1. ​​​The state(s) of origin is/are free from notifiable avian influenza and Newcastle disease.
2. No outbreak of the subtypes of H5 or H7 low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) has occurred for at least 28 days in the Australia state(s) or origin prior to export
3. The egg products are transported in new or appropriate sanitized packaging materials.

3.3 Egg products that are heat treated

For egg products that are heat treated produced for human consumption, use Health Certificate template EX46TW (NEXDOC only) with additional endorsement 5171, as detailed in section 3.2 above.

3.4 Manufacturing grade products

There is no agreed certificate for the import of manufacturing grade products into Taiwan.

3.5 Consignments under 10kg and trade samples

There is no agreed certificate for the import of consignments under 10kg and trade samples into Taiwan.

4.1 Import permit

An import permit is required for eggs exported from Australian to Taiwan.

The validity of the permit is subject to change as determined by Taiwan.

4.2. Port of entry inspection and testing

Taiwan has no known additional requirements for port of entry inspection and testing of egg and egg products that differ from those required in the Export Control (Egg and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

5.1 Packaging

Taiwan has no known specific requirements for packaging in addition to those provided in the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

5.2 Labelling

For labelling requirements for food and food raw materials, including eggs, are contained in Taiwan’s Act Governing Food and Safety and Sanitation (and its associated enforcement rules).

Current labelling requirements:

• Prior to importation labelling on all containers and external packaging of food and food raw materials must be in Chinese (traditional Chinese characters); any labelling text in foreign language of the country of origin must be supplementary to the Chinese.
• All labels must specify the product name, weight, volume, or quantity of the product, ingredients and additives, manufacturer, country of origin, expiry and nutritional details.
• If the products are to be re-packaged or processed in Taiwan, then a temporary Chinese labelling exemption can be applied for at the time of submitting an application for Taiwan Food and Drug Administration’s (TFDA’s) import inspection. Chinese labelling must still be applied before the products are sold.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive. Exporters should contact their importers to ensure they are satisfying all the Taiwanese labelling requirements for exporting egg and egg products.

5.3 Shelf life

Taiwan requires products with a shelf life greater than 3 months may be labelled with the year and month only (the last date of that month shall be the expiry date.

5.4 Use-by date

Taiwan requires of the expiry date shall be decipherable, in the format year, month and day.

5.5 Shipping marks

Taiwan has no known specific requirements for shipping marks in addition to those provided in the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

6.1 Refrigeration, transfer and loadout

Taiwan has no known specific requirements in addition to those provided in the Export Control (Eggs and Eggs Products) Rules 2021.
