Compliance with Japan's
Food Sanitation Act. No certification is necessary for export to Japan.
Consignments of frozen fruit and vegetables may be sent with an EX188B with the following endorsement:
The fruit and/or the vegetables in the consignment have been frozen at -17.8 degrees C or less and the temperature has been maintained until the time of import inspection.
The Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of Patulin for consignments of apple juice to Japan is 0.05 ppm.

2.2 Conditions
Generally, compliance with relevant Australian domestic requirements is satisfactory and no certification is necessary for export to Japan.

1.3 Prohibited products

2. Documentation requirements
2.1 Government certification
The Department understands government certification is not required to export edible apiculture products to Japan. However, exporters are encouraged to confirm the importing conditions through their importer, or if needed the government authority of Japan.
2.2 Supporting documents and exporter declarations
The Department is not aware of any requirement for supporting documents and exporter declarations.
3. Other requirements
Edible apiculture product must comply with Japan's Food Sanitation Act.
Japan honey quota
Under the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA), there is a quota for honey:
- Quotas are issued on a first-come, first-served (FCFS) basis with the quota year running in line with the Japanese financial year: 1 April to 31 March.
- The amount of quota available changes annually for honey until 2024.
To receive a quota certificate for a consignment of honey to Japan exporters need to complete the JAEPA quota application form and email it to the Department's Quota Unit (quota.admin@agriculture.gov.au). Once approved, the Quota Unit will email the quota certificate directly to the exporter.
4. Exemptions granted by Japan
The Department is not aware of any exemptions being granted by Japan. Exporters are encouraged to confirm if any exemptions apply by contacting their importer, or if needed the government authority of Japan.

Animal feed products that contain di-calcium phosphate
For animal feed products that contain di-calcium phosphate, use the manufacturer's declaration along with the Department's letterhead declaration.
Animal feed products that contain gelatine derived from bovine hide
For animal feed products that contain gelatine derived exclusively from bovine hide, use EX188B certificate with the following endorsement:
The gelatine contained in this product is derived 100% from bovine hides.

- Certification has not been established for animal feed products that contain gelatine derived from bones. Exporters interested in sending this product to Japan are advised to contact their Departmental regional office.
