It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

An import permit is required to import sheep into Turkey.

Note

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

The agreed health certificate for the export of slaughter sheep to Turkey requires that Australia has been free for 24 months from clinical bluetongue. Clinical bluetongue was detected on a number of sheep properties in New South Wales in 2024. Prospective exporters of slaughter sheep to Turkey should contact the Live Animal Export Branch to determine if the required certification can be issued in respect to clinical bluetongue.
