It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

The following conditions apply only to consignments of 4 or fewer live rabbits to Taiwan from Australia.

An import permit required.

Contact the Ministry of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency (APHIA) ​for information about the process required to import animals into Taiwan from Australia.

Refer to the Department’s websites for current information about exporting animals.

Note

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.

Certifying officers must review the import permit(s), any conditions provided by the exporter and the country website to ensure that the issued document(s) are consistent with the permit(s).

5. The imported animal(s) meets the following requirements:
   
   
   1. 5.1 The animal(s) fulfills the requirements stipulated in Attachment 7-1 Quarantine requirements for the Importation of Order Lagomorpha.
   2. 5.2 No cases of tularemia regarding rabbits in the exporting country have been confirmed in the previous 2 years (genus Lepus only).
   3. 5.3 For each consignment of 4 rabbits or less:
      
      1. ​​5.3.1 The rabbit(s) were raised in the exporting country for more than 90 days prior to export or since birth.
      2. 5.3.2 No cases of rabies, rabbit hemorrhagic disease and myxomatosis have been confirmed in the establishments in the previous year.
      3. 5.3.3 The rabbit(s) were detained for at least 30 days for pre-export quarantine in the establishments supervised by the veterinarians accredited by the competent authority of the exporting country. During the quarantine period, the rabbit(s) were examined and found to be in a healthy condition without any clinical signs and subject to the following requirements:​

         1. ​5.3.3.1 The broad-spectrum anthelmintics were applied once between 5 to 15 days prior to export for internal and external parasites;

      5. 5.5 Based on a declaration from the exporter, the animals shall be transported in cargo holds with clean containers which have been treated with disinfectant approved by the competent authority of the exporting country. No additional feed, straw and forage, bedding or other susceptible animals are allowed to be loaded en route to the destination. The means of transport and transit shall comply with the World Organisation for Animal Health Terrestrial Animal Health Code and the Live Animal Regulations of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).​​
         

Permission to move animals out of Australia​

You may need permission under wildlife trade laws to move rabbits out of Australia. Refer to the Department’s International wildlife trade requirements. There is specific guidance for non-commercial wildlife trade for public exhibition, scientific research, conservation breeding and personal use.
