Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Refer to this and the Department's websites for current information about exporting animals (including any suspensions).​

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

All breeder prawns exported to Nigeria must travel under the health certificate below.​

Veterinary Conditions

I, Dr ………………………………, a duly authorised government veterinary officer, hereby certify that:

  1. Australia is free from Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, Infectious myonecrosis virus, and Monodon slow growth syndrome (MSGS).

  2. The aquatic animals were inspected within three (3) days of export and were free from clinical signs of infectious and contagious disease.

  3. The aquatic animals were inspected within three (3) days of export and were free from clinical signs of all listed OIE/WOAH recognized fish and crustacean diseases.

  4. The aquatic animals originate from an establishment that has not been subjected to any prohibition due to unresolved mortalities during the previous three (3) months.

  5. The aquatic animals have been placed under suitable conditions and water quality that do not alter their health status.

  6. The containers used for transporting the aquatic animals are new or have been cleaned and disinfected prior to use and have proper labelling.

  7. Aquaculture facility of origin is approved or licensed, and under the supervision of the relevant Australian state or territory government.

Special conditions

Permission to move aquatic animals out of Australia

You may need permission under wildlife trade laws to move aquatic animals out of Australia. Refer to the Department’s International and wildlife trade requirements.

Export from Australia of Australian native hatchery bred fingerlings or ova should be accompanied by approval of the hatchery facility from the appropriate State or Federal authority. Refer to the Department’s Exporting fish and fish products from Australia for information about exports for human consumption.
