Importing country requirements
It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.
Additional information to assist exporters with how to prepare reproductive material for export is available on the
Department's website.
An import permit and health certificate are required.
Information about the process required to import reproductive material into New Zealand from Australia can be found on New Zealand's
Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) website.

- Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

There is an
import health standard (IHS) and a
guidance document.

- As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.
Special conditions
- Note
- Testing is not required for diseases that Australia is free from. This includes the following diseases:
- Maedi Visna
- Contagious caprine pleuropneumonia
- Ovine and Caprine Brucellosis (Brucella melitensis)
- Contagious agalactica
- Peste des petits ruminants
- Scrapie
- Tuberculosis (Bovine)
- Testing for ovine epididymitis (Brucella ovis) is not required where properties of origin are accredited free from the disease.
- Testing for caprine arthritis encephalitis is not required.
- MPI New Zealand have granted a general dispensation that testing for Border disease is not required until further notice.
Other requirements
Centre veterinarian declaration
A declaration by the Artificial Insemination Centre (AIC) veterinarian is required for assessment of this export.
