Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

The consignment must be accompanied by an official health certificate.

Refer to the Department's websites for current information about exporting animals (including any suspensions).​

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

Health requirements

Health certification

I, Dr ………………………………, a duly authorised government veterinary officer, hereby certify that: 

  1. A. Originate from a bona fide scientific institution and have been inspected by the veterinarian in charge of the source colony within 72 hours of loading, and showed no clinical signs of disease.
  2. B. Are not subject to any prohibitions due to unresolved increased mortality.
  3. C. Are not intended for destruction or slaughter for the eradication of OIE listed diseases.
  4. D. Are placed under conditions for export, including water quality, that do not alter their health status
  5. E. The transport containers are either new or clean and disinfected.
  6. F. The consignment is identified by a legible label on the exterior of the container with
    1. ​name and address of both the exporter and importer
    2. country of origin
    3. name of approved source and destination
    4. place of loading
    5. means of transport
    6. ​description of commodity (common and scientific name and HS code)​

Special conditions

Permission to move aquatic animals out of Australia

You may need permission under wildlife trade laws to move aquatic animals out of Australia. Refer to the Department’s International and wildlife trade requirements.

Export from Australia of Australian native hatchery bred fingerlings or ova should be accompanied by approval of the hatchery facility from the appropriate State or Federal authority. Refer to the Department’s Exporting fish and fish products from Australia for information about exports for human consumption.
