Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

An import permit is required and may be obtained by contacting the Iran Veterinary Organisation (IVO) or the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Canberra.

Refer to these and the Department’s websites for current information about exporting animals (including any suspensions).

Note
Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

Health requirements

Health certificate

1. The day-old chickens or hatching eggs for export were derived from breeding establishments and hatcheries that are approved for export and audited against the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code (Code) by the Australian Department of Agriculture.

The Department provides certification based on documentation confirming successful audit and approval of breeding establishment and hatchery by the Department of Agriculture within 12 months prior to export.

2. The day-old chickens or hatching eggs are produced from breeding flocks that were hatched in Australia and have had no contact with non-domestic (imported) birds.

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the premises that the day-old birds or hatching eggs originate from breeding flocks that were hatched in Australia and have not been in contact with non-domestic (imported) birds.

3. The day-old chickens or hatching eggs are produced from breeding flocks which:

a. have been examined during the 72 hours before export and found to be free of evidence of disease

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from a registered veterinarian that inspected the breeding flock within 72 hours before export and found free of evidence of disease.

b. have had no cases of lymphoid leucosis, avian encephalomyelitits, avian leukosis, reticuloendotheliosis, Newcastle disease, avian influenza, mycoplasmosis, salmonellosis (S. enteritidis, S. typhimurium, S. pullorum, S. gallinarum), haemorrhagic enteritis, avian metapneumovirus, chicken infectious anaemia, reovirus infection and avian chlamydiosis in the 6 months before export and have had no cases of Pasteurellosis and fowl pox in the 30 days before export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation from the State or Territory Veterinary Authority of no evidence of the relevant notifiable diseases in the breeding flock/s for the relevant time period prior to export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation from the operator of the breeding flock establishment of no evidence of the relevant non-notifiable diseases occurring in the breeding flock/s for the relevant time period prior to export.

c. have been held for more than 6 weeks in an establishment approved for export by the Department of Agriculture, that is not under any official quarantine restrictions and around which, within a radius of 25km, there has been no outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza or Newcastle disease for at least 30 days prior to export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation confirming successful audit and approval of breeding establishment and hatchery by the Department of Agriculture within 12 months prior to export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation from the operator of the breeding flock establishment of no evidence of the relevant non-notifiable diseases occurring in the breeding flock/s for the relevant time period prior to export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation from the operator of the breeding flock establishment that the day old chickens or hatching eggs have been held in the establishment for more than 6 weeks.

d. have had no contact with poultry not meeting the requirements of this certificate or with wild birds, for at least 6 weeks prior to export.

The Department provides certification based on documentation from the operator of the breeding flock establishment that the day old chickens or hatching eggs have had no contact with poultry not meeting the requirements of this certificate or with wild birds, for at least 6 weeks prior to export.​

4. Salmonella and Mycoplasma testing:

a. The breeding flocks from which the day-old chickens or hatching eggs are produced have been tested for Salmonella pullorum, Salmonella gallinarum, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae by serum agglutination tests at least twice in the 6 months prior to export, including once within 30 days of export. A number sufficient to detect 5% prevalence with 95% confidence was tested. No evidence of infection with S. pullorum, S. gallinarum, M. gallisepticum or M. synoviae was detected.

b. The housing of the breeding flocks from which the day-old chickens or hatching eggs are produced has been microbiologically tested for Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis. Five samples per house were tested at least twice in the 6 months prior to export, including once within 30 days of export. No evidence of these Salmonella species was detected.

The Department provides certification based on records of sampling and laboratory test results from the breeding flocks within the appropriate time frame and of a sufficient number to meet the required prevalence and confidence levels.

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the breeding flock establishment confirming the flock size and the number of samples collected.

AND

Records of sampling and laboratory test results from the housing of the breeding flocks of a sufficient number and within the appropriate time frame.

A declaration from the operator of the breeding flock establishment confirming the number of samples collected from each poultry house.

5. The breeding flocks from which the day-old chickens or hatching eggs are produced were vaccinated against the diseases listed in the attached vaccination schedule. This includes:

a. the age of bird at vaccination

b. name of disease

c. name of vaccine

The Department provides certification based on a copy of the vaccination program of the breeding flocks from which the day-old chickens or hatching eggs originate which includes the age of the flock at vaccination, the name of the disease vaccinated against and the name of the vaccine.

6. The day-old chickens or hatching eggs have not been treated with anti-mycoplasma drugs.

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the premises that the day-old birds or hatching eggs have not been treated with anti-mycoplasma drugs.

7. The day-old chickens have been hatched from eggs that had been fumigated and disinfected before setting (delete for hatching eggs).

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the breeder flock establishment that the day-old chickens have been hatched f​rom eggs that had been fumigated and disinfected before setting.

8. The day-old chickens have been hatched from hatchers that were disinfected or fumigated before use (name of product and active substance attached) (delete for hatching eggs).

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the breeder flock establishment that the day-old chickens have been hatched from hatchers that were disinfected or fumigated before use (including name of product and active ingredient).

9. The hatching eggs for export have been disinfected or fumigated before packing (name of product and active substance attached) (delete for day-old chickens).

The Department provides certification based on a declaration from the operator of the breeder flock establishm​ent that the hatching eggs have been disinfected or fumigated prior to packing (including name of product and active ingredient).

10. The day-old chickens or hatching eggs were placed into new, clean packaging for export and have not come into contact with other poultry, eggs or birds.

The Department provides certification based on an exporter declaration that the day-old chickens or hatching eggs were packed in new, clean packaging for export and have had no contact with other poultry, eggs or other birds of differing health status.

11. The vehicles used for transport of the boxes containing the day-old chickens or hatching eggs were cleaned and disinfected before transport.

The Department provides certification based on an exporter declaration that the vehicles used for transport of the boxes containing the day-old chickens or hatching eggs were cleaned and disinfected before transport.​

Permission to move birds out of Australia

You may need permission under wildlife trade laws to move birds out of Australia. Refer to the Department’s International wildlife trade requirements. There is specific guidance for non-commercial wildlife trade for public exhibition, scientific research, conservation breeding and personal use.
