It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Exporters must obtain an import permit from the Kingdom of Thailand Department of Livestock Development and meet the import health requirements specified by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Health certification

As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.

Certifying officers must review the import permit(s), any conditions provided by the exporter and the country website to ensure that the issued document(s) are consistent with the permit(s).

Health certificate

I ............................................. an authorised veterinary official of the government of Australia certify to the following in relation to the horses identified on page one of the health certificate and in the attached stud-book, silhouette or other pedigree certificate:

1. The horses are healthy, free from signs of any infectious diseases including ectoparasitism at the time of export and fit to travel.
   
   
2. Australia is free from African horse sickness, equine encephalomyelitis (eastern, western and Venezuelan encephalomyelitis and Borna disease), rabies, contagious equine metritis, equine influenza, equine piroplasmosis, glanders, equine paratyphoid (S. Abortus equi), horse pox, vesicular stomatitis, dourine, trypanosomiasis (surra – T. evansi) and epizootic lymphangitis.
   
   
3. After due enquiry, during the 12 (twelve) months before export (or since birth if horses are less than 12 months of age), the horses have not resided on any premises where clinical signs or other evidence of anthrax, equine infectious anaemia, equine viral arteritis (EVA), equine herpes virus-1 (abortion and neurological disease), Hendra virus, strangles, equine coital exanthema or horse mange have been found during the previous 2 (two) years.
   
   
4. All horses were isolated for at least 30 (thirty) days before export in premises approved by DAFF for this purpose and under the supervision of an official veterinarian.
   
   
5. All horses were individually tested with negative results using test methods recommended by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). The tests were carried out during the 30 (thirty) days before export on the dates listed for the following diseases. The test methods used are listed:
   
   
   1. 5.1 Equine infectious anaemia (date..../..../20...., test: AGID)
   2. 5.2 Equine viral arteritis (date..../..../20...., test: SN, negative at 1:4)
   3. 5.3 Hendra virus (test ELISA or SN, date ..../..../20....)
   
   
6. The horses were treated with a registered broad spectrum anthelmintic and external parasiticide within 7 (seven) days of export.
   
   
7. The vehicles and containers used for transporting the horses were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before loading the animals for transport to the port of export.
   
   
8. The accommodation provided for the horses during air transport was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before loading the animals and is designed in accordance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animal Regulations.
   
   
9. No animals not of similar health status have been taken on board the aircraft. No fodder other than of Australian origin was taken on board the aircraft at loading.
   

If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with Australia's requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
