Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements. 

An import permit, statutory declaration and health certificate are required.

Refer to the Biosecurity department of the Solomon Islands for information about the process required to import animals into the Solomon Islands from Australia.

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

As importing country requirements may change without advice to the Department you should check the import permit and/or the country website carefully at the time of preparation for export.

Health certification

INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE FOR DOGS FROM AUSTRALIA TO SOLOMON ISLANDS

I ___________________________, being a full time Government Veterinary Officer of the exporting country hereby certify that:

  1. After due enquiry I have no reason to doubt the truth of the owner's/exporter's declaration attached;


  2. I have identified the dog described as follows on ____________________________;

    Breed: ____________________________

    Sex: ______________________________

    Age: ______________________________

    Description (including colour): _______________________________________________


  3. In the five years preceding export, rabies and canine brucellosis have not been diagnosed in animals in the country of export.

  4. The dog described above was:
    1. Vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, canine parvovirus and parainfluenza infection on: ________________________

      Note: 1) This date must be at least 30 days and not more than twelve months prior to export.
                 2) In the case of puppies receiving a primary course the final vaccination must be given at 12 weeks age or older.

    2. Treated for hydatid tapeworm with praziquantel (droncit) at a dose rate of 5mg/kg within three days of departure.

    3. Treated with an effective broad spectrum anthelmintic within three days of departure.
    4. Washed twice with an insecticide solution licensed for ticks at a seven day interval, the last being within three days of departure.

    5. Examined within three days of departure and found to be free of clinical signs of disease and free of all ectoparasites.

  5. No bedding or collar of plant or animal origin accompanying this dog.

  6. After due enquiry and examination I am satisfied that the bitch is not more than six weeks pregnant.

All pages are to be initialed and endorsed with the Official Stamp.
A separate certificate must be completed for each animal being exported.

All dogs must be desexed before importation.

DECLARATION BY OWNER OR EXPORTER OF DOGS BEING EXPORTED TO SOLOMON ISLANDS

  1. During the 30 days immediately preceding the date of export the dog has been free from symptoms of disease and has not been in contact with any animal displaying symptoms of disease.
  2. The dog has resided in the country of embarkation for at least six months prior to export, or since birth if less than six months of age.
  3. The dog is older than 16 weeks at time of export.

Return to Australia

If your animal is returning to Australia, you should make yourself familiar with the Department's requirements for importing live animals into Australia. This is important as your animal may have been exposed to diseases that do not occur in Australia.
