It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements. The requirements to import live animals into Northern Ireland are different to those of Great Britain. Under the Northern Ireland Protocol, from 1 January 2021, the European Union (EU) Pet Travel Regulation will apply.

Prospective exporters of dogs, cats or ferrets to Northern Ireland that are travelling via England, Wales or Scotland should also review the Micor entry for that species to the UK.
