Importing country requirements

It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the animal meets the importing country requirements.

Contact the Directorate of Animal Resources in Lebanon for information about the process required to import animals into Lebanon from Australia.

Where an importing country issues an import permit, the exporter must ensure the animal meets any requirements in the permit.

Health requirements

Health certificate

  1. Mainland Australia has been free from Varroasis (Varroa destructor), Acariasis and Tropilaelaps for at least 2 years.

    The Department issues certification for country freedom based on advice obtained from the Australian Chief Veterinary Officer to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

  2. The following diseases are Nationally Notifiable in Australia. The bees are from apiaries that have had no reported cases of the following bee diseases listed in the OIE – Terrestrial Animal Health Code 2016:

    • Acariasis (Acarapisosis)
    • Infestation with Tropilaelaps spp.
    • American Foulbrood (Paenibacillus larvae)
    • European Foulbrood (Melissococcus plutonius​)
    • Varroasis

    for at least the last 6 months prior to export.

    The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the State or Territory veterinary authorities of no reports of OIE listed diseases in the 6 months prior to export in the apiaries of origin.

  3. The bees come from hives that were inspected within 30 days of the proposed export. At the time of inspection the bees appeared healthy and did not show any symptoms of contagious bee diseases.

    The Department issues certification based on a declaration from the government apiary officer who inspected the hives.​

There may be particular requirements for packaging the honey bees for export and you should check this.

Transport requirements

There may be requirements for transportation and approved routes for exporting honey bees and you should check this.
