General Requirements

Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
​Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Treatment

Asparagus sourced from areas which are not free from red-legged earth mite (Halotydeus destructor) are subject to Methyl bromide fumigation.

Consignments are to be treated at Normal Atmospheric Pressure either under tarpaulin or chamber at:

40 grm/m3 for 2 hours at 26.5 degrees celsius - with minimum concentration readings of:

  • 32 grm/m3 at 0.5 hour;

AND

  • 24 grm/m3 at 2 hours.

48 grm/m3 for 2 hours at 21-26 degrees celsius - with minimum concentration readings of:

  • 38 grm/m3 at 0.5 hour;

AND

  • 29 grm/m3 at 2 hours.

64 grm/m3 for 2 hours at 15-20.5 degrees celsius - with minimum concentration readings of:

  • 48 grm/m3 at 0.5 hour;

AND

  • 38 grm/m3 at 2 hours.

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
