General Requirements

As of 5 July 2006 an international standard for wood packaging material (ISPM 15) has been enforced. Under this standard all wood packaging material made from raw softwood and hardwood must be treated (with methyl bromide or heat) and then stamped with an internationally recognised ISPM 15 certification mark.

A list of treatment providers and manufacturers certified under the Australian Wood Packaging Certification Scheme, who are approved by the Department of Agriculture to apply the internationally recognised mark and produce ISPM 15 compliant wood packaging is accessible on the Department of Agriculture website.

Wood packaging material and dunnage must made of debarked wood in accordance with ISPM 15

Wood packaging and dunnage must be free from all quarantine pests and signs of pests

Wood packaging and dunnage must be free from decay and other fungi
