Consignments must meet the requirements of the Export Plan for fresh produce from Australia to New Zealand. The Export Plan is available through
Micor Plants in the
'Documents' section. Access is restricted and requires a logon.
Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material. Exporters may choose to use the following contaminant tolerances during phytosanitary inspection as referred to in the
Import Health Standard 152.02. The permitted tolerances are for a 600-unit sample.
- 25g of soil
- 12 leaves
- 8 regulated weed seeds
All strawberries exported to New Zealand must:
Have had one of the following measures applied for Bactrocera neohumeralis (lesser Queensland fruit fly), Bactrocera tryoni (Queensland fruit fly) and Ceratitis capitata (Mediterranean fruit fly):
1. being sourced from pest free area (Riverland, TAS);
OR2. irradiation at a minimum dose of 150 Gy. OR3. fumigation with methyl bromide at 48grm/m3 for 3 hours at a flesh temperature of 15 degrees Celsius or above.
Explanation of fruit fly pest free areas (PFAs)
The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):

- the Ord River Irrigation area of Western Australia. Note: this is not a pest free area for Bactrocera spp. except B. tryoni.
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Riverland must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection which states all fruit was sourced from properties outside the suspension areas.
Exporters sourcing fruit from the Western Australia PFA must present a State government certificate at the time of inspection.

Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
