General Requirements

Korea's Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management requires all foreign food establishments that produce, manufacture, process, treat and/or store food, plant products including grains, processed plant products and fresh fruit and vegetables for human consumption intended for export to Korea are required to complete a web-based (http://impfood.mfds.go.kr/) registration process.

A foreign food facility as described in the Special Act on Imported Food Safety Management for fresh fruits and vegetables includes growers, packaging and treatment facilities (registered export establishments), etc.

​Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.
 
​Where applicable, the exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the endorsement and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

Access is restricted and requires a logon.  Also refer to Department of Agriculture, Water Resources standard for vapour heat treatment (VHT) of fruit fly host commodities. The VHT Standard is available in the 'Resources' section of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources Plant Export Operations Manual, available on the department's website.

All varieties of mango are permitted to be exported to Korea.

The registered packhouse number/s must be entered into the "shipping marks" field of the EXDOC Request For Permit (RFP) and be in the example format of: PACKHOUSE NO: XXXX.
 
In the case of sea freight, the container and seal number must be entered under "Containers" and "Seal" fields of the EXDOC Request For Permit (RFP) and be in the example format of: ABC1234/DEF5678.


The VHT treatment facility name and Export Registered Establishment number is to be entered on the Phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.​

Treatment

All mangoes destined for export to Korea are subject to mandatory vapour heat treatment (VHT), which shall be supervised by a Department of Agriculture and Water Resources authorised officer.
 
A  Department of Agriculture and Water Resources authorised officer must be present to supervise the loading of the treatment chamber/s.
 
Chamber doors cannot be opened until a Department of Agriculture and Water Resources authorised officer is present, and has verifie​d treatment was successful.

The following treatment schedules is accepted for the VHT of mangoes for export to Korea:
Innermost fruit pulp temperature - 47 degrees celsiu​s or above for a period of 15 minutes (consecutive minutes).

Note: 90% humidity must be maintained or exceeded within the treatment chamber for one hour prior to and throughout treatment period.

Exporter to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and to present to the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources authorised officer at time of inspection.​

The treatment is to be shown on the Phytosanitary certificate as: 

V HEAT TREATMENT START DATE TREATMENT END DATE FOR XX MINUTES AT XX DEGREES CELSIUS TREATMENT FACILITY NAME AND NUMBER XXXX​

Option 1 (EXDOC Endorsement 3482)
1) The consignment conforms to the requirements agreed by QIA, and found to be free from quarantine pests of Korea as a result of export inspection.
