General Requirements

Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

All blueberries for export to Japan must be grown, packed and inspected in Tasmania only. Blueberries from all other states and territories of Australia are prohibited for entry into Japan.

Blueberries must not be transported across other states and territories unless secured against pests using one of the following methods: 
  • Fruit packed directly into plastic or perforated liner bags (long-life bags) which are sealed inside cartons with no openings or vents; or
  • Individual cartons must have all holes screened with mesh or gauze with maximum openings not exceeding 1.6mm; or
  • Entire pallets must be wrapped with mesh or gauze with maximum openings not exceeding 1.6mm; or
  • If mesh or gauze is not used, entire pallets must be wrapped securely in polythene (shrink wrap).
