General Requirements

Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.

Biomass pellets containing grains or pulses that have not been thoroughly compressed, shredded, crushed or smashed must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate.

If the pellets do not contain any grains or pulses, or they only contain grains or pulses that have been thoroughly compressed, shredded, crushed or smashed, the pellets are permitted into Japan without a phytosanitary certificate. When a phytosanitary certificate is not required, consignments may be exported without an Authorised Officer inspection and issuance of an export permit.

Consignments will be subject to on-arrival inspection to verify that the pellets are free from pests, soil, viable seeds and any other contaminants.
