Consignments are to be free from pests, soil, weed seeds and extraneous material.
All fresh fruits and vegetables to Fiji must undergo a targeted inspection for fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Please refer to the Reference: Pests, diseases and contaminants of horticultural commodities and the Reference: Plant exports guide – Sampling horticulture for information on this pest and conducting a targeted inspection.
The produce must be packed in clean, new packages and readily distinguishable from other packages used for cucurbits in Australia.
The produce must be packed in either:
- Entire polythene bags within the packages
OR
- In packages without vents
OR
- In packages with lids which fit completely over the base with aeration vents in the lids suitably screened against the entry of fruit flies.
The following areas are recognised as pest free areas for Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) and Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata):
- Tasmania, and
- the Riverland region of South Australia.
A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
