General Requirements

​Consignments are to be free from soil, pests and evidence of disease.

A copy of the import permit must be presented to an Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.
​It is the exporter’s responsibility to ensure that the phytosanitary certificate is issued within 14 days of the consignment being exported from Australia.

Refer to the departure date and inspection date in the Request for Permit.

​​Each package must be labelled with scientific name of the plants and the country of final processing.​

Treatment

The exporter is to provide evidence attesting to the treatment and present it to the Authorised Officer at the time of inspection.

​Details of treatment to be endorsed on the phytosanitary certificate in the treatment section.
 
  • Plants should be fumigated with Methyl Bromide at 32 grm per cubic metre for 2 hours 

OR

  • Sprayed with Azadirachtin/Spinosad and 0.4% Tetramethylthiuram Disulfide (TMTD) or any suitable insecticide and fungicide prior to shipment

OR

  • Other approved treatments may also be acceptable, to address the risk of nemtodes and diseases.

 

For plants with growing media, the soil-less organic growing media should be fumigated with: 
  • Phosphine gas at 2 grm/cubic meter for 72 hours;

OR

  • Methyl Bromide at 32 grm per cubic metre for 4 hours at NAP and NRT prior shipment;

OR

  • Other approved treatments may also be acceptable, to address the risk of nemtodes.

 

Any wood packing material used must be treated with:
 
  • Fumigation using Methyl bromide at 48 grm per cubic metre for 24 hours;

OR

  • Heat treatment at 56°C for a minimum duration of 30 continuous minutes;

OR

  • Other approved treatment in accordance with ISPM No.15 may be acceptable.
