Eggs

Micor (Eggs) details the known importing country requirements for Australian shell eggs and egg products. Micor (Eggs) provides information on requirements such as sourcing eggs and establishment listing that are considered necessary by importing countries to satisfy their public and animal health regulations.

Micor (Eggs) also details known importing country certification requirements, as well as labelling, product testing, manufacturing processes, and any other conditions that must be met to enable access to a specific overseas market.  Where importing country requirements for egg and egg products are unknown, the department encourages exporters to work with their importers to determine requirements, such as whether a health certificate (meaning a trading partner’s model certificate) and/or an import permit is required by the importing country competent authority.

All eggs and egg processing establishments must adhere to the requirements of the Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Rules 2021.

Certification alert: HPAI related market access and certification impacts

High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza outbreaks (H7N3 and H7N9) were confirmed in Victoria, NSW and the ACT. As a result, the Department is unable to issue export certification for some poultry and ratite meat, meat products, rendered meals, pet food, eggs and egg products where the certification contains freedom from avian influenza declarations. In addition, some trading partners have imposed temporary suspensions on the import of these products.

The Department has issued regular Market Access Advices (MAAs) to advise exporters of relevant trade developments and the status of export certification. Exporters are advised to refer to the latest MAAs for the most up-to-date information. MAAs can be viewed on the department’s website here: Egg export industry notices - DAFF (agriculture.gov.au).

The MAAs include an Attachment which shows countries and products affected by occurrence of high pathogenicity avian influenza in Victoria, NSW and ACT. The Attachment specifically states which export health certificate templates for egg and egg products have been affected. Exporters should ensure they are reviewing the most up to date MAA and attachment with current market access information.

Markets that are not listed in the Attachment to the MAA should not have certification affected. The department recommends that all exporters of egg and egg products work closely with their importers to ensure any exported product will be accepted at border clearance.

For all enquiries, please email exportstandards@aff.gov.au.

Exporters are reminded that it is an offence to provide false or misleading information to the Australian Government.
